Patient Testimonials

Judy Barratt

“I’m very blessed,” to be active again.

For Judy Barratt, pain was a constant for many years. She could barely walk. When her orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michelle Mariani suggested a new same day joint replacement program at Waterbury Hospital, she was eager to try it.

Following successful surgery, Barratt went home the same day on her way to recovery. Through the Hospital to Home Program she was cared for by nurses and physical therapists at home.

Just weeks after her surgery, she was able to do something she had dreamed of doing but hadn't been able to do for years: walk on the trail in her hometown of Wolcott. “This is hugely freeing,” she said.

Gary Welton

Gary’s getting a kick out of his new knee.

Gary Welton is a 66-year-old Sales Rep. from Middlebury who was always on the go. An avid golfer and Tai Chi instructor, he also happens to be a 6th degree black belt in karate. After chronic knee pain began to cramp Gary’s active lifestyle, he decided it was time to do something. He sought help from Waterbury Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Eric Olson. Gary underwent a complete custom knee replacement procedure and says his experience with Dr. Olson and the orthopedic team at Waterbury Hospital was “top notch.

That’s why they’ve always been our hospital.

The best part: Gary’s pain is gone and his active lifestyle is no longer on hold. He’s back to the golf course with a brand new knee.

Donna Hersh

Donna’s total knee replacement surgery didn’t hurt, it helped.

Donna Hersh of Woodbridge underwent a successful total knee replacement procedure performed by Orthopedic Surgeons Dr. Michael Kaplan and Dr. Erik Carlson at Waterbury Hospital. A successful surgery now has Donna ready to resume all the things she loves, swimming, walking even kayaking. She says: “I feel like a new person.”

The best part: our world class anesthesiologists employed a new “local” anesthesia block, which allowed Donna to recover with little or no pain. “After my surgery there were no highs and lows with pain which I believe was crucial to my recovery.” Donna and her new knee were discharged from the hospital after just 3 days and she didn’t require pain medication when she went home.
